…and here is the time lapse of my drawing getting drawn! Hours of me laying down charcoal, then erasing it, and smooshing my head around are mere seconds in this animated gif. ENJOY!

My Stupid Life
Hi, I'm Annie. I'm an artist currently pursuing an MFA in Visual Development for animation. I'm a bunch of other stuff too, but all you need to know is that here I shall post works in progress, ramblings, and stuff I like.pages

Hansel finds a nice piece of roof to eat. Mmm, crunchy! Working on my Hansel and Gretel animatic. Tearing my hair out over the last two weeks of school!
BART sketches.
Self-Portrait with Dots, 2011.
Charcoal on paper.
Yeeehaw! 14 hours and many sticks of charcoal later, I have finished my final for Head Drawing class, another self-portrait! I would not be surprised if my snot was black from all the wiping and spreading of charcoal.
Yep. It’s black.
I’ll post the final image later when there’s better lighting and when I’ve gotten some much needed sleeeeeeeeeeep.
Tom Gately suggested we sketch from current news stories as a drawing exercise. Here’s one from yesterday’s SF Chronicle.
I’m terribly behind on my drawing practice. Maybe I’ve been waiting for that magic pencil to come into my life, but alas, no such thing exists. These Pitt Pastel pencils I just got come preeeeetty close though!
Week 7 of Head Drawing.
Bill Sanchez is hilarious. He teaches the Clothed Figure workshop on Fridays and had us draw him in this 5 minute pose with a saw and hardhat. Then he did a demo on my drawing of what you could do with another 5 minutes incorporating the construction worker costume on top. And then he saw I had an orange pastel stick and well…
Drawings from week 7 of Clothed Figure class.

Here’s a self portrait I did for Head Drawing class two weeks ago. Been meaning to post it sooner but I made a time lapse animation of this getting drawn which took freaking forever to create due to busy-ness and my lack of familiarity with using Photoshop as an animation tool…
Tiny Pencil! This thing has been sharpened beyond usefulness, but I’m reluctant to throw it away because it’s so cute!
Can you believe the top two drawings are of the same dude!? Hah. Well, it’s week 4 of Head Drawing, and I still have lots to work on. I had the unique opportunity to draw a long pose of the same model twice, so I chose a profile view the second day. Quite a challenge. Also, I think John got a haircut between Monday and Tuesday! ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
Also, a blind contour drawing of a head. I’ve always loved doing these because I like being surprised by the delightfully grotesque results at the end.
Happy 75th Birthday Jim Henson! In honor of the occasion I shall share with you a couple of my muppet related artworks- one is an awesomely bad drawing of Kermit and Cookie Monster that I made 10 years ago! I’m happy to say that I think my drawing has improved a bit since then.
Next are my thumbnail sketches for the Jim Henson/Kermit painting I did for my Color Theory class…oh, such wonderful possibilities to explore in the thumbnail stages, none of which made it to the final, haha. Yes, those are supposed to be Kermit eyes adorning Jim’s fluffy shirt. I posted the painting a while back here, and here again is the time lapse gif of it coming alive (Thanks again, Michael!).

Also, happy 50 years to the Bay Area Puppetry Guild, who will be tearing it up puppet style during tonight’s celebration.
